Missouri Student Survey

To track trends in adolescent risk behaviors, the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) has conducted the Missouri Student Survey (MSS) every even numbered year since 2000. The MIMH provides assistance with survey development, methodological decision making, data analysis and report writing. This survey asks a variety of questions including those on substance use, mental health, suicidal ideation and bullying. Also included are questions on risk and protective factors. Since 2010, data were stratified to make the sample more representative of the counties and the state as a whole. To allow for comparisons over time, the datasets from 2006 and 2008 were retroactively adjusted as well. In 2014, 257 districts and almost 68,000 students participated in the survey.

Screening and Brief Intervention in Missouri (MOSBIRT)

MOSBIRT is a substance abuse prevention project that has screened more than 200,000 Missourians in various medical settings for risky substance use behaviors. Those at risk are offered 1 to 6 brief evidence based sessions to reduce those risks. With this early intervention, individuals can reduce their risks and improve their health.
