NASMHPD Archives
The National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) was formed in 1959 to provide a vehicle for the exchange of information between state mental health/retardation departments about programs, laws, plans, and practices. It also provided channels for quick reporting about federal legislative action. In 1994 the MIMH Library was selected to become the repository of the collection of documents created from the extensive communications between NASMHPD and other mental health agencies over the past decades. The sixty-three boxes of letters, reports, studies, and publications that make up this collection are currently being sorted, arranged, and cataloged. In the near future information about these materials will be electronically accessible. The NASMHPD Collection is an important source of information for researchers wanting to understand more about the development of the community mental health system. The MIMH Library also receives all current NASMHPD publications.
