The MIMH Library, founded in 1962 and located in a historic (1869) former psychiatric hospital, has one of the larger collections of mental health resources in the United States. The 28,000 volume collection includes journals, books, and audiovisuals in the areas of psychiatric and psychological research and treatment; substance abuse prevention; and developmental disabilities. The library subscribes to approximately 300 journals – both print and electronic, and adds several hundred books and videos annually.
The Library’s mission is to provide informational services to support the research conducted by MIMH faculty and staff and to make health care information accessible to Department of Mental Health service providers, clinical care staff, front-line workers, administrators, families, and clients throughout Missouri.
Reciprocal arrangements with libraries nationwide allow for the borrowing and lending of materials to further enhance and support the informational needs of MIMH Library users.
Library services, provided by the librarian and a staff of five, include online literature searching, document delivery, the lending of books and audiovisuals, and the provision of a current awareness program.
