Each of the modules below provide information about a specific Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders topic. After you watch the video, or listen to the audio version, take the assessment. Pass all seven assessments and receive a free certificate of achievement.
 
  
1. Foundation and History.
This module overviews the history of alcohol use and abuse, and then covers the specific history of the identification and subsequent promulgation of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) It is highly recommended that this module be reviewed before moving on to the other modules. (presenter/objectives)

2. Screening/Brief Interventions for Women.
This module explains why it is important to screen women who may be at risk for pregnancy and introduces the key screening measures (TWEAK, T-ACE, etc.) currently used in the field. (presenter/objectives)

3. Models of Addiction.
This module reviews the major theories of addiction and the damage associated with each stage of addiction. (presenter/objectives)

4. Biomedical Effects and Mechanisms.
Competency 4 overviews the science documenting the deleterious effects of alcohol on the fetus. (presenter/objectives)

5. Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment.
This module is designed to teach clinicians what to look for when they examine a patient who may have been exposed to alcohol in utero. The module describes all of the changes (structural, neurological and functional) that may result from a woman's decision to consume alcohol during her pregnancy.(presenter/objectives)

6. Case Management.
Competency 6 targets clinicians who work with people who have been affected by FAS, and the module makes straightforward, practical and helpful recommendations about the needs of people with FAS at each stage in development. (presenter/objectives)

7. Related Issues.
This module covers a potpourri of topics related to FAS including legal, ethical, policy and advocacy issues relevant to those of us concerned about prevention of FAS. After completing the module you will know more about where to go to get more information about FAS and you will be better equipped to lobby for local, federal and state legislation that will benefit people with FAS and help prevent future cases.
