The Epidemiological Study of Organized Self-Help

In collaboration with Sofres Intersearch in Horsham, PA and the National Mental Health Consumers Self-help Clearinghouse in Philadelphia, PA, the Program in Consumer Studies and Training is participating in the development and implementation of the Survey of Organized Consumer Self-Help funded by the Center for Mental Health Services. The epidemiological study drawn from over 3,000 consumer organizations in 190 counties nation-wide will provide information about types of organizations, organizational structures, member characteristics, services provided, barriers encountered, and relationships with formal/traditional mental health delivery systems. This project will first identify programs and then build a database so that a sampling frame can be created. A sample will be drawn from the database and a survey conducted using a computerized telephone interview method and consumer interviewers to collect the information. For more information contact
